A unique marriage of iconic sportswear and heritage outerwear, sportswear giant adidas Originals have teamed up with South Shields-based Barbour to bring you this inspired collaborative effort for Autumn/Winter 2014.
Taking three themes, each story features jackets and trainers or boots designed to be worn together or stand alone. The stories reflect the heritage of both brands from Barbour’s country and military influences to sportswear, the heartland of adidas Originals.
Following our preview of the collection, we present a closer look at the collection in-situ with both the apparel and footwear in their predisposed habitat.
The ‘Country’ story sees the Adiwick jacket in a robust 8oz beeswax, retaining details from its model, the classic Barbour Beaufort, featuring of large bellows pockets, studded detachable hood and rear zipped pocket. What makes this jacket unique is the extra detailing of added leather trims to the hem, pocket and hood for an up to the minute look. To complement the jacket, the adidas classic outdoor shoes TS Runners – Barbour have especially redesigned featuring a waxed cotton tongue and beautifully aged tan upper leather.
The ‘Military’ chapter is inspired by a customised jacket that Barbour created for a captain in the British army at the time of the Falklands War in the 1980s. The Baradi jacket is multi-pocketed, full of detail and has a printed camo lining made up of sections of the accompanying GSG9 – Barbour boot. The soft black nappa leather combined with Barbour waxed fabric makes these boots the natural partner to the Baradi jacket.
The ‘Spectator’ story is split into two and celebrates the long association adidas has had with sport. Sports are often played and enjoyed on Barbour’s territory of country fields, grassy green pitches and rainy British parks.
Part One is the Johbar jacket takes the iconic features of a classic Barbour wax jacket such as the large ring pull zip, spacious bellows pockets and corduroy collar and combines these into an exclusive wax cotton jacket in navy with contrasting sleeves and leather binding at pockets and cuffs. The ZX555 – Barbour shoes designed to be worn with the Johbar.
The second instalment is the quilted showerproof Roubarb jacket which offers an alternative lightweight choice. Inspired by the track and the famous ‘Beckenbauer’ track top, the Roubarb is a shorter version of Barbour’s traditional quilt. Available in both red and black iterations, details include track top lycra cuffs and hems and waterproof zips to front jetted pockets. The CLMBA – Barbour shoes in chilli red incorporate the Barbour Beacon logo on the peg ends and add a clever use of Ecotex tongue material.
