Working in tandem with the collection’s 70’s inspired apparel, we take a closer look at the adidas Originals x SPEZIAL A/W’15 Footwear collection.
Typically, the footwear expands upon archival silhouettes with collection curator, Gary Aspden, adding his fanatical slant to each style resulting in an infusion of 70’s freizeit sensibilities and contemporary casualwear.
Comprising five distinct styles, the footwear is the highlight of this ode to 70’s leisure garb, with adidas Creative Consultant Aspden resurrecting classic three stripe silhouettes with some aplomb.
The Albrecht Mid SPZL is an update on Spring/Summer 2015’s iteration, the midboot working with suede and leather uppers sat atop a gum crepe-like sole, whilst the Mountfield SPZL takes the Boston SPZL of A/W’14 and applies a trek-inspired make-up resulting in a more robust shoe.
With archive at the forefront of the collection, it’s no surprise to see that the Huyton SPZL, brand new for A/W’15, mix in a plethora of classic trefoil adorned runners such as the Oregon and New York styles by employing a characteristic Dillinger webbing to the midsole.
The footwear range is finished with two definite behemoths. The G.S SPZL is a tribute to the classic Grand Slam silhouette with head-turning silver stripe detail, perforated toebox with nubuck tooling and signature plug system with accompanying key.
However, the Munchen SPZL – available in two colourways – sticks religiously too its OG roots. Modelled upon a Japan release from 1981, this one-to-one release sports full suede uppers with vintage effect, gum sole and SPEZIAL swingtag and sockliner.
