Honing his craft at an impressive assortment of luxury fashion houses such as Givenchy, Dior and Marc Jacobs, Alexandre Mattiussi was as well-equipped as any to start up his own label. With the objective of creating premium pieces for the everyday wardrobe with a nod to his high-fashion lineage, this ambitious designer did just that – and so, in 2011, AMI was born.

Shirking overtly trend-based designs for their AW16 collection, AMI can consider their brief achieved, delivering a plethora of staple silhouettes with an eye for intricate detailing, subtle branding and exceptional craftsmanship that offers ready-to-wear essentials for the modern man.

AMI AW16 Collection

There is no virtuoso ostentation here, no transgression from storied silhouettes. But that certainly does not mean a lack of refined detailing and contemporary styling.

Mattiussi breathes life into prosaic pieces with subtle embroidered branding, exemplified with the Wolf Patch cardigan – a truly considered approach to a classic knitwear silhouette.

The brand delivers an unbeatable range of basics like the Tricolour Classic Crew Sweat, with its bouclé chest lettering adding a level of ebullient texture to an everyday leisurewear piece. Conversely, the label’s Cashmere Mix Roll Neck Knit comes replete with the subtle luxury you’d expect from a designer who cut his teeth under such an array of illustrious designers.

A distinctly 80s vibe subtly permeates the collection in the guise of idiosyncratic typography, garnishing a number of basic tees and sweats with retro styling. The Double Wolf Moon Sweat stands out on the vintage aesthetic stakes, exhibiting maximum retro styling through a bold chest graphic of two wolves howling at the moon.

Round off your AMI wardrobe with a selection of their considered headwear pieces as well as their take on a classic running sneaker, harnessing premium suede and grain leather into a truly high-end iteration of a storied silhouette.
