HELLO my name is CANCER, the first ever coloring book for adults with the disease that dares to fight back with laughter. Kim Kovel, a senior innovator at Nike, was diagnosed in Jan. 2015 with an unusual type of lymphoma, and her aggressive treatment left her to examine the surreal nature of chemotherapy, cancer, and her experience. She enlisted fellow Nike Creative Director and designer Mark Smith to create distractions, puzzles, dot-to-dots, any activity that took the experience, flipped it on its end and made her laugh. A lot.
Think a ‘happy hour’ drawing, to color in your chemo cocktail, or a maze to navigate ‘chemo brain.’ It’s really tongue-in-cheek… Here’s a brief video on the project:

Now in remission, Kim is launching HELLO my name is CANCER on Kickstarter on Oct. 1, aiming to raise money to put these books into leading cancer centers across America and change the conversation around how patients and those around them can heal through laughter.
