Titled ‘Pilgrimage’, HBA’s AW16 collection references the displacement of indigenous people in America during its colonisation back in the 17th Century. Having relocated to Milan for a number of years, this collection reflects Oliver’s return to New York, where he collides streetwear with high-fashion with an experimentative range of apparel that defies social norms in favour of bold expression, creatively repurposing unfamiliar materials into purposeful executions.

Embodying Oliver’s introspection and social discontent, you get the impression Hood by Air’s AW16 collection delivers some of its graphic-emblazoned tees and hoodies, however resolutely, with tongue firmly lodged in cheek. Featured among the chest prints are ‘American Psycho’ typography, as well as ‘HBA’ set against the backdrop of mince – metaphors, perhaps, for socio-political tumults like racial division and disenfranchisement that exist every bit today as in the days of America’s colonisation.

Exceptional leisurewear runs throughout this offering, with the Tweek Fleece Active Pant standing out with its zip feature to each leg that can be adjusted to create a slimmer silhouette, revealing or concealing the contrast branding that runs down the outer right leg.

Defining the brand’s approach to innovative design, the Cut Out Tee features stencilled branding to the back in the form of laser cut-out lettering – a unique method that if worn over another tee will really make the branding pop.
