Tokyo-based brand Neighborhood continues to produce cool Japanese streetwear inspired by culture and tradition. With the spotlight on the Autumn/Winter 2015 collection the range retains its cult following with a sense of well-designed, premium quality motorcycle apparel.
Established in 1994 by Shinsuke Takizawa, the label was built to create expert technical apparel after a continued frustration with ill-fitting and poorly crafted products available at that time. Studying at Harajuku with a close group of friends Shinsuke looks back at how the ‘Neighborhood’ name was born.
A motorcycle enthusiast, the designs are quintessentially a Japanese angle on Americana, continuing with preppy sportswear and a rugged biker style – with one eye on current trends. The workwear aesthetics illustrate an altogether more rustic route as well as varied aspects of US counter-culture and the military uniform.
Not widely distributed outside of Japan, the new collection continues to showcase the heavily logo-printed tees the label is originally famed for. Shirts and jackets are vintage workwear and military inspired with a mix of preppy Americana in the striped tees, classic athletic striped socks and baseball-esque sneakers.
