Encompassing and surpassing a plethora of cultural landmarks from the mid-20th century and beyond, often with an overarching bohemian theme, Hedi Slimane has often taken Saint Laurent into uncharted territory that is a world away from the Parisian fashion house’s esteemed roots.
Spring/Summer 2015 is no different. The latest collection from the inspired French designer infuses elements from 50′s Teddy Boys, the Mods and Rockers of the 1960′s and mid-century Psychedelia to create a ready-to-wear collection that oozes typical Parisian cool.
Feeding off signature Yves Saint Laurent touches such as sleek tailoring and slick leather pieces, the collection is a mix of luxury jackets and contemporary basics all of which are entwined with a defined rock ‘n’ roll edge. Staple pieces such as the Leather Biker Jacket with complementary Signature Leather Bike Pants are now quintessential Slimane whilst classic pieces from the ‘Take Ivy’ era such as the Wool Teddy Bomber Jacket give the classic collegiate piece a much needed facelift.
Running alongside the apparel collection is a well served range of accessories which adds a real touch of class to day-to-day items. Case in point is the Monogram Waxed Backpack which deploys the brand’s signature ‘YSL’ motif across the high-end reworking of the traditional backpack, bringing back a healthy dose of 90′s logomania nostalgia.
