Japanese designer, Yohji Yamamoto continues to create a fascinating collaboration with authentic sportswear brand adidas. The latest Y-3 collection is inspired by sneaker culture, think sport in spirit without a compromise on functionality. The “Y” stands for Yohji Yamamoto, the “3” represents the signature Adidas three stripe logo and the “-” signifies the link between the two. Adidas represents the sport whilst Yohji Yamamoto represents the design, together they have developed the future in sportswear.
The show began with an opening salvo of Y-3’s typical fare, with a parade of black-heavy sportswear looks featured elongated, drapey silhouettes and abstract silhouettes, and strayed further and further into graphic territory, as a number of pieces were adorned with vibrant smoke prints and horizontal stripes.
Arriving in its usual colour palette of black and white, the latest drop of apparel showcases a range of fashion imagining itself as sportswear. Expect Yohji to apply his unique aesthetic to classic adidas track pants and sweats with air meshes and delicate jerseys that conjure a sense of easy elegance and couture comfort.
The new Kyujo silhouette first debuted at Paris Men’s Fashion Week, making a statement amongst an extensive Y-3′s sneaker offering. The Kyujo High’s mesh textile body is styled with geometric deconstructed detailing, sat upon the trademark Y-3 outsole. Expectedly, we see the iconic Qasa silhouette returns in its ‘forward thinking’ design. One of Y-3’s best loved models continues to play with proportion in a variety of traditional performance detailing – seen with the vibrant smoke print. Utilising one of the most innovative and advanced technologies, the Retro boost sneaker fuses the energy return of adidas boost™ midsole with a simplified yet futuristic neoprene uppers.
Y-3 has defined and dressed the human body in motion. The Y-3 SS16 Collection is available now at EndClothing.com.
